This is your reminder to..... "Stay Hydrated"!

Hydration, Hydration, Hydration

We have all heard how important it is to drink water and stay hydrated. However, do you know why hydration is essential to our health? Water makes up most of our body weight and aids in our body's ability to:
  • Flush out toxins
  • Digest our food
  • Keep our skin healthy and glowing
  • Regulate our body temperature
  • Absorb nutrients
  • Helps with constipation
We have been told for years to drink 6-8 glasses of water per day, but how many of us are committed to this? The average Canadian is consuming closer to 1-2 glasses of water per day, resulting in plummeting energy levels and sometimes weight gain.

An easy measure to see if you are getting enough water every day is to check the colour of your urine. Pale or almost colourless means you're hydrated and dark yellow means you need to drink more water.

A few tips to stay hydrated throughout the day are:
  • Limit your caffeine consumption: 1 cup of coffee can dehydrate your body by 2 cups of water. So, depending on your caffeine levels, you may need to double up!

  • Keep a water bottle handy: Buy yourself a reusable water bottle (500lms or larger) to help you keep up with your water consumption.

  • Supplement with electrolytes: Add your favourite flavour of Ener-C Sport or Multivitamin to your daily regime as well. This will give your water a delicious real fruit flavour, as well as provide you with the added benefits 16 essential vitamins and minerals along with electrolytes. While our multivitamin packs a flavour and vitamin punch, Ener-C Sport is made for rehydration and exercise recovery. It has light, refreshing berry flavour: perfect for adding to your water bottle for a tough workout or a hot day. Each packet of Sport contains only 1 gram of sugar: just enough to activate the hydrating properties of electrolytes in your body.

  • If you're hungry, drink some water: Often when we are dehydrated, our body signals that we are hungry. Next time you feel like you need a snack, try having a glass of water instead and see if what your body really needed was hydration.
