The Mighty B Vitamins
With over a dozen different vitamins to choose from (13 in fact), understanding what vitamins we need daily, whether through our diet or supplementation, can be overwhelming and often confusing. Each vitamin has a particular need and or purpose within our body. When we fully understand how specific vitamins work within our body, we can ensure we get enough of these through our food choices and supplementation for overall health.
When it comes to vitamins, the B Vitamins play a huge role in our bodies. With over 8 B vitamins in the roster, these are referred to as B complexes.
This group of essential vitamins are the following :
Vitamin B 1 ( Thiamin)
Vitamin B 2 ( Riboflavin )
Vitamin B 3 ( Niacin )
Vitamin B 5 ( Pantothenic Acid)
Vitamin B 6
Vitamin B 7 ( Biotin )
Vitamin B 9 ( Folate )
Vitamin B 12
Each of these B vitamins plays a different role within our body; however, the group of them work together to provide our body the following :
- Metabolism of our foods (Carbohydrates, fats, protein )
- Energy production
- Production of essential hormones in our body
- Hair, skin and nail health
- Adrenal Health
- Cardiovascular Health
- Formation of healthy red blood cells
Although we get a lot of our vitamins and minerals through the foods we eat, if we are deficient in a specific group of vitamins ( such a Vitamin B's ), we often don't absorb the nutrients or vitamins through the foods we eat. That is where supplementation comes in and plays an important role.
Vitamin B's are found mostly in dark leafy greens (spinach, kale, broccoli) eggs, lean meats, whole grains, eggs, seeds, and nuts. We often don't consume enough of these foods or absorb enough nutrients from these foods, which can cause us to be deficient.
Supplementation proves to be more beneficial these days due to contributing factors such as poor soil conditions, poor diets, digestive disorders and even stress levels.
If you are finding yourselves needing a bit more energy throughout the day, have dry, brittle nails, hair loss, and even signs of anemia, supplementing with vitamin B's maybe your secret Game-changer.
